The key to increasing jewelry sales is to stay on top of inventory. It is essential to maintain some sort of system for reordering in order to maximize the sales from each jewelry line. Systems can be as simple or as complicated as you are comfortable with, but should take into account these three different types of jewelry merchandise.
basic lines... Jewelry that you keep in stock consistently should be on a reorder “par” system, always keeping a minimum amount on hand. Decide your minimum and ideal amounts, set a regular inventory schedule and reorder amount needed for par stock. This is much the same as systems used for grocery stores and insures you will have these regular items always in stock. collections... Those lines that you reorder consistently, but should be ordered by collection. These types of lines benefit from the added visual impact of bringing in a larger amount. Order a quantity that will make a visual impression. Bring in new collections that relate back to previous collections, therefore re-energizing the whole line. special attractions... Special hot little trend items that you bring in need to be watched closely because the trend is usually fast and in order to maximize your sales you must act quickly. Reorder quickly to maximize sales, but keep a keen eye out for the end of the trend. Decide which category the specific line is to your store. The same line of jewelry will be seen as a stock item to one store and specialty item to another. Is this jewelry in which you want to have a consistent amount of inventory? Do you primarily order it by the quantity you need or by specific style? Imagine all jewelry on a continuum: from basics to specialty items. Determine where in this continuum each line of jewelry you order is and reorder accordingly. By categorizing lines into these three groups you will also see where the strengths and weaknesses are in your inventory. Overall there should be an even distribution along the continuum. Be careful not to have too many lines on either end of the spectrum or too many in the middle. Re-categorize a line if need be. Everything changes and all systems benefit from a little bit of personal intervention. By organizing your jewelry reordering you will see an increase in your jewelry sales and the number of return customers begging for new jewelry. |
